Artist Profile

Crecious Mwambuku

Crecious Mwambuku (Chrey) is a rising contemporary artist whose journey began in the vibrant, sun-soaked streets of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. From a young age, his innate talent set him apart—by the age of 11, he was already captivating audiences with his pencil drawings, guided and mentored by the acclaimed artist Alfred P. Chakabveyo. Under Chakabveyo's mentorship, Chrey honed his skills over two transformative years, launching his early path into the commercial art world by the age of 13.

Initially drawn to pencil as his medium of choice, Chrey’s artistic horizons expanded in 2011 following a life-changing encounter with celebrated wildlife artist Larry Norton. Norton's encouragement sparked a new chapter in Chrey’s evolution—one where oil painting became a central medium of expression and exploration. Under the influence of both Chakabveyo and Norton, he embraced the importance of originality, boldness, and artistic growth, transitioning from strict realism to experimenting with abstract styles and themes.

After completing his Advanced Level education, Chrey made the bold decision to pursue art full-time, dedicating himself entirely to his creative vision. His talent and persistence have seen him featured in several local exhibitions, including the Jacaranda Old Stables Market in 2022 and 2023, followed by a showcase at the Victoria Falls Art Gallery. These opportunities marked significant milestones in his career, allowing him to share his work with broader audiences and grow his following.

In 2023, Chrey earned a Learners Professional Guiding License—an achievement that deepened his connection to the natural world and further refined his wildlife artistry. Then, on January 8, 2024, he opened his own home studio in Victoria Falls—a personal sanctuary where creativity meets purpose. His studio is now the birthplace of striking artworks that reflect not just technical mastery, but a profound narrative rooted in identity, nature, and vision.

Chrey is driven by a dream to travel the world, exhibiting his art on global stages and leaving an indelible mark on the contemporary art scene. With each brushstroke, he brings to life the landscapes, stories, and spirit of Africa. His journey is a testament to passion, resilience, and the power of mentorship—and he continues to inspire with works that are as original as they are powerful.
